Rotary axis as industrial washing system for components in ATEX Zone 0
A high degree of customization and speed - these were the challenges of our customer, a well-known German paint factory.
In its production, our customer uses certain special components on a daily basis. These become heavily soiled in the course of their use. Instead of laboriously cleaning these parts individually, this task is now performed by an industrial washing system. Previously, the parts were rigidly attached to a pipe inside the cabin and were sprayed by an equally rigid cleaning nozzle. The parts then had to be turned by hand. The cleaning process was then repeated. This time-consuming process was now to be simplified and automated.
The idea was to rotate the parts on an axis so that the rigid nozzle could reach each side of the parts. And all this in ATEX Zone 0. Our customer approached us with this task. As a drive and agitator manufacturer with many years of experience in special production, he found the right contacts in the PTM development department.
The washing system was delivered for implementation. The system is in daily use. In order to be able to return it as quickly as possible, a CAD model had to be created quickly.
All the components required for implementation were now created using the CAD model and then manufactured. For this, our ATEX-certified, energy-efficient Radial piston motor with connected rotary axis was used. Our special PTM zone separation flange ensured safe separation between ATEX zone 1 outside and 0 inside the cabin. However, our ATEX drive was not the only focus of this project; various sealing concepts were also used to prevent solvents and vapors from escaping. Finally, we attached customized brackets for our customer's special components to the rotary axis.
During assembly and the subsequent tests, it was again important to keep an eye on the time. The system was delivered again. The downtimes had to be kept as short as possible. After just two days of assembly and various performance tests, the washing system was handed over to our customer.
