ATEX zones
ATEX is a certificate for devices and machines that allows them to be used in potentially explosive environments.
An area is at risk of explosion if a potentially explosive gas mixture can form in the atmosphere. This is the case wherever vapors can escape and come into contact with the ambient air, for example in the manufacture of paints, varnishes, fragrances and food. This also includes dust mixtures.
A distinction is made between three ATEX zones for potentially explosive atmospheres consisting of a mixture of air with combustible substances in the form of gas, vapor or mist. The operator is responsible for dividing the production or processing facility into these zones.
