Restart protection - safety after standstill
In industrial processes where machines with mechanically moving components such as agitators are used, safety is one of the top priorities. A central element of this safety architecture is restart protection - a protective measure that prevents a machine from automatically restarting after a power interruption or actuation and resetting of an emergency stop, for example. The Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC for example, stipulates that machines may only be restarted intentionally.
This is because a sudden restart of a machine without conscious control can lead to considerable risks: Injuries to employees, damage to equipment or uncontrolled process sequences. This is precisely where restart protection comes in - as an intelligent safety valve between machine and human.
Technically, this protection is usually realized by undervoltage triggers or electronic controls. These ensure that the machine does not restart automatically after a power failure, but only after a specific reactivation by the operator (Wikipedia - Undervoltage release).
The eco-start from PTM
With the eco-Start, PTM offers sophisticated restart protection that:
- prevents uncontrolled restarts
- is fully integrated into the control system of our stand mixers
This means that eco-Start not only meets the legal requirements - it also makes safety a matter of course.
