Emergency stop in agitator technology - safety in seconds
In industrial mixing and agitating processes, every second counts when it comes to safety. An emergency stop system (also known as an emergency stop) is therefore indispensable in agitator technology. It protects people, machines and products in an emergency - by immediately interrupting all dangerous movements.
What is an emergency stop?
The emergency stop switch is a safety function that quickly and reliably puts a system into a safe state in the event of danger. The power supply to all relevant drive components is interrupted immediately. The aim is not a controlled shutdown, but an immediate standstill - for example in the event of:
- Operating errors or uncontrolled machine behavior
- Intervention in rotating parts
- Sudden leakage or escape of hazardous substances
- Detection of malfunctions
Legal requirements
The use of emergency stop systems is regulated by law. According to the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, Annex I, Section 1.2.4.3, every machine must be equipped with at least one emergency stop device if this is necessary to reduce risk (Wikipedia - Machinery Directive).
The EN ISO 13850 standard also sets out clear requirements for the design and functionality of emergency stop systems - e.g. red mushroom push-buttons with a yellow background, clear positioning and easy accessibility.
Emergency stop in agitator technology
A reliable emergency stop is essential, especially for agitators with powerful drives and openly accessible mixing vessels. This is not just about compliance with regulations, but also about a sense of responsibility towards users and plant operation.
A correctly integrated emergency stop in the agitator technology:
- Prevents consequential damage in the event of overfilling, blockages or leaks
- must react immediately, even with automated processes
PTM - Systematic security solutions
PTM mechatronics equips its agitator systems with an optional DGUV-compliant control panel including an emergency stop function - both electrical and pneumatic. The emergency stop is optimally integrated into the operating concept, easily accessible at all times and designed for maximum reliability.
In combination with other safety functions - such as Dual-handle operation, Restart protection and container detection (eco-Start) - PTM agitators offer a comprehensive safety concept for demanding applications.
