Pneumatics as a lifeline in times of shortage
From October 24 to 30, the bauma (mining and construction machinery trade fair) took place in Munich. We also visited bauma and our customers' trade fair stands. During the discussions, one statement stood out in particular: Pneumatics will become more important in the future.
Lack of electrical components pushes pneumatics
The shortage of electrical components that has prevailed for some time now is causing our customers increasing concern. Entire production areas are at a standstill as necessary parts are missing due to extremely long delivery times - if they are available at all in the foreseeable future.
As most people do not expect the shortage to end for the time being, they are switching to pneumatics. Electric motors are being replaced by pneumatic motors. This is where pneumatic motors score points, as they work completely without electronics and sensors. They are therefore not subject to the current shortage and are available for immediate delivery.
Smooth transition from electric motors to air motors
In practice, replacing electric motors with compressed air motors is extremely simple in most cases. In many production facilities, compressed air systems are already in place anyway due to other applications. This means that the motors only need to be connected to the existing system and integrated into the equipment before the production areas can be put back into operation.
Saving energy as a welcome side effect
It's not just electrical components that are in short supply. Our energy is also currently a scarce and therefore expensive commodity. The PTM air motor is therefore a double winner: it develops maximum power with minimum energy consumption. As a result, our customers are also equipped for the future after the changeover and save energy and costs from now on.
