ATEX motor in a highly explosive atmosphere

Our ATEX-certified motors offer 100% explosion protection in all explosive areas. Thanks to their purely mechanical design, neither sparks nor heat can be generated that could cause ignition hazards.

We would now like to present two practical application examples. Here, our motor is being used successfully in a highly explosive atmosphere:

Use on rocket launch pad

Our customer is active in the aerospace industry*. Here, our motors are installed and operated on rocket launch pads. It goes without saying that our motors offer 100% explosion protection and must also be able to withstand exceptional environmental conditions.

Why the PTM air motor outperformed the electric and vane motor

Our customer deliberately opted for PTM air motors rather than electric or vane motors: electric and vane motors first have to „pick up speed“ for a few seconds and then develop speed abruptly. This jerky start-up could lead to friction between components and cause sparks and thus an explosion in this highly explosive atmosphere. PTM air motors, on the other hand, start up slowly at full torque from the very first second and work very smoothly throughout.

Production of explosive detonators

Our customer, a Czech manufacturer of detonators for explosives*, produces its high-explosive detonators on two large special machines.

He uses six ATEX motors from PTM mechatronics to drive each of these two machines. In addition to the safe use of our ATEX motors in explosive atmospheres, the high energy savings of up to 90% compared to the vane motor and their high torque were decisive factors in the purchase decision.
